Our school

Our school is located next to a creek that runs between two mountain ranges. It is a picturesque drive up our valley, which takes approximately 20 minutes from Laidley.

We have two separate buildings splitting the composite classes for prep to year 3 and years 4 to 6.  Mrs Sandra O'Sullivan teaches prep to year 3 and Miss Carly Domrow and Ms Mary Kemp teach years 4 to 6.

The school curriculum is supported by weekly visits from the teachers of music, physical education and German.

Curriculum support is the key initiative of the school with special programs organised for those requiring it. These programs are instructed by well-trained teacher aides while being provided and supervised by the class teacher and support personnel. Volunteer parents also provide reading support when available. If you are interested in volunteering for reading support please contact the classroom teacher.

The staff at Thornton State School are determined to develop and encourage the love of learning while instilling in our students the skills that enable them to become lifelong learners.

We are supported by a very proud and active community. All dates and events are detailed in the school newsletter.
